Pink rose tea cups and saucers...
Sunday 10th August, 2014
Sunday 10th August, 2014
After spending an evening which consisted of cups of tea from pink rose tea cups and saucers, ham sandwiches cut into triangles with butter that was spread so thick it nearly made my heart stop, followed by a huge slice of Victoria Sponge and talking to Eileen, listening to her talk about my nan and bamp, I'm so happy with the information I came away with.
I asked Eileen if they both had girlie talks and if nan ever used to moan about bamp not helping with things around the house. To my surprise Eileen explained my nan never in all their years spent together did she complain about my bampi.
I asked if they ever talked about my nan and bampis first dates and what my nan felt towards my bamp when they were first courting. Eileen confirmed that bampi would chase my nan around the school yard at play time when they were just 5 years of age. He was mad for her and that they were inseparable from then on. She tells me that they were both madly in love with one another from the word go.
At that moment I honestly imagined an old black and white romantic movie and that my nan and bamp were the main actors in it and was sat listening to her with a huge smile on my face as though fixated on the film, not wanting to miss a single detail.
Eileen also tells me the story of when they worked together at the Emporium in Blackwood when they were just 15 years old. And how they would use this old fashioned messaging tube to send a piece of paper with a message on through to the girls in the accounts department asking what they were going to be going out on the weekend. Which involved the girls going to a cafe where they knew the boys were hanging out, and would walk right passed them and sit on the furthest table away from the boys. After hours of not talking, not even looking at the boys, they would all leave giggling and saying how excited they were that the boy they each liked didn't look at them. How adorable.
This is the part I loved. Eileen went into her unique detail of what my nans favourite dress was. They didn't have many, so it was probably was her pride and joy. It was a navy blue dress with white stripes, a little white collar and a black belt.
I also paid a visit to my Auntie Leigh's house to lend some photo albums, I found some real fab black and white photos that I just can't wait to post on this page to share with you.

Telling stories...
Wednesday 16th July, 2014
For a while now I have been eager to find out what my Nan and Bampi aka Yvonne (Bonnie) and John were like when they were young and what they were like to be around with their best friends Elaine and Bill when going out on double dates and weekend get away's etc, to find out what they got up to like my husband and I do with our best friends Jamie and Louisa aka Jalou.
I've heard Elaine in the past go into so much detail when telling stories so have decided to try and arrange to meet up with her to find out the answers. I cannot wait to listen to her answers on some of the questions I have prepared for her. Elaine can even remember what colour buttons were on my Nan's dresses, so this should be a fascinating and remarkable journey.
I will of course keep you all updated of my progress on this adventure. I will be sifting through photos too so will be posting those on here too. I am so excited about this! x
